Since Apple has gone to Intel processors in their computers , I have been able to get rid of the Wintel boxes in my household. I do not use Windows exclusively but from time to time I do have a need to run some Windows programs. I can do this via BootCamp (included with Leopard) and/or thru virtualization (Fusion or Parallels).
My need for MacDrive 7 for Windows arose while accessing multimedia files on my external firewire Mac formatted hard drives connected to my iMac. I was frustrated having to copy the files back and forth to the Windows partition and rebooting. MacDrive 7 made this a very simple and manageable task. Once installed you can access the external drives and even your Mac startup volume while in BootCamp. It did what I needed to do and saved me time in the process. I was worried about possible data corruption but did not experience any in my testing. Also , I did not notice any noticeable slowdown accessing these drives. At version 7 , I believe Mediafour has a very solid and robust product.
From their website they claim , “MacDrive works with just about anything you can throw at it, including hard drives, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, floppies, iPods, flash drives, Zip, Jaz, MO, DMG virtual disk files and more.” I verified that flash drives, external FW drives, startup volumes and cd/dvds all worked as stated.
