Pros: The software was easy to install and easy to use. Although I have not been experiencing font problems, this is an efficient way to avoid them. The Internet help files are quite complete and make available a way to learn about fonts.
Cons: This is an application that assumes that one knows how fonts work and I did not.

SMASHER provides a way to avoid a wide variety of font problems, including:
• Use smashed fonts with any font management utility or design application
• Stop wasting system resources by activating individual fonts rather than entire suitcases
• Improve system stability and reliability by verifying basic font integrity
• Simplify font menus by creating smaller, more precise suitcases for activation
• Examine and simplify Multiple Master fonts to extract them intact from suitcases
• See individual fonts in their native typefaces
• Compare contents of multiple suitcases
• View file permissions and foundry information with a click
• Keep bitmap and printer fonts together to ensure proper printing and PDF generation
• Create Mac TrueType versions of Mac OS X dfonts for running Mac OS 9 and Classic applications
To use it all you need to do is drag folders, fonts and suitcases into the left pane, select a family, style, or entire suitcase, and click the “Smash” button. I feel confident that there will not be any font problems that I cannot fix if they ever occur.
