I own both Photoshop and Corel Painter and while both of these programs allow you to paint and they are not as easy to use as ArtRage. There are two versions of ArtRage the full version which is paid for or the free version. While the free version offers most of the features of the full version, these are some of the tools you are missing out on. You have access to all of the brushes, you also get Stencils, Rulers, Metallic’s, and References. Last but not least Layers, PSD support, Custom Colors and Crop and Resize.

This program works really well if you have a drawing tablet it does work without a mouse but a drawing tablet can give you a level of precision that you may not achieve with just a mouse. The interface looks like a large white canvas that pretty much takes up the entire screen. You have your brushes in the lower left corner, and your pressure settings on the upper left. Your colors are in the lower right and your layers options in the upper right. Your menu bar is at the top of the canvas and your Toolbox Panel in the middle at the bottom of your canvas.

All of these panels have yellow dial grips on them that when clicked retract the panels into the side of the screen, kind of like a hide tool. Some of the panels can be moved to a different location (more…)
