Impressive

I admit I didn’t actually go out and buy an iPod touch. The price tag is a little steep for my salary, but a better-paid co-worker did. He did not, however, insure his investment with any kind of case. I offered him a free protective case in exchange for letting me take his iPod Touch home to, ahem, test out the Jam Jacket.

The first thing was to apply the protective screen film. It proved very difficult to get just right no matter how carefully I tried to squeeze out all of the air bubbles. I did not want to apply too much pressure to the sensitive touch screen. It ended up looking somewhat rough and, even though it was functional, my friend did not like the aesthetics of a wrinkled touch screen and removed it. Unfortunately, there was only one screen protector provided.

The silicone case slipped on easily and looked very stealth-like which was a nice contrast to the shiny gloss finish of the iPod Touch.

The multi-function clip on the back of the jacket is very innovative. By squeezing one end open like a traditional belt clip you can attach the unit to your belt, pocket, purse or backpack strap; by flipping both edges of the clip back, it becomes a sturdy desk stand for viewing movies, photos or just offering a different angle to the dust gods… It also functions as a convenient hub to wrap your earphone cord around.

Access to the dock connector, headphone jack and sleep/wake button at the top and bottom of the iPod were adequate. I would recommend this protective case without reservation if only the screen shield had been easier to apply or, at the very least, had more than one in the package. Granted, the rubber edges keep the shell from getting scratched and dinged, but only having one try at applying this tricky film is ludicrous. So my friend has his iPod Touch back with a rubber overcoat, and I got to play with the costly little bugger, albeit for too short a time, but he is still without adequate screen protection.
